Siri, Alexa, and other AI Voices

As a kid, I had a weird obsession: I wanted to be the voice of the shipboard computer on Star Trek: The Next Generation. I have not grown out of that. Pretty cool that 30 years later we can actually carry that computer with us in our pockets…

While I haven’t (yet) had the pleasure of bringing voice to a starship, I did get to mess with Murphy Brown as one more in a long line of her failed assistants, and I helped a very Sad Device take over the Pringles Twitter account during the 2019 Superbowl. I have also delivered speeches as a Siri-esque bot, helped a new dad navigate to the hospital in an AT&T ad, given cheerful automated warnings about faux pas (“Warning: do not text your ex”)… and someone out there hears me as the voice of their doorbell.
